Care Village given green light in Dundee

July 30, 2009

New care village in Dundee, Scotland has been given planning permission .

NorthStar Capital Projects have been granted full planning consent for their proposed new care development in the centre of Dundee.  The decision was taken at the Planning Committee for Dundee Council on Monday 29th June 2009.

The scheme was granted outline consent last year and, since then, NorthStar have worked with their operational partner - The Executive Care Group - and the Dundee Local Care Commissioners.  The scheme caters for a wide range of specialist services which have been designed in partnership with the Dementia Services Development Centre at Stirling University and scheme architects Richie Dagen and Allen

The Executive Care Group is to operate the 92 bed residential and nursing care unit along with a 22 unit assisted living apartments block just outside of Dundee's City centre, to the North West.

The finished scheme is designed to be domestic in scale with a mix of single and two storey buildings framing landscaped courtyards and linked by pedestrian walkways.

Executive Care Group Director Ian Holmes said "the partnership approach we took to this project meant that the care commissioners and social services teams were involved in every stage of the evolution of the scheme, giving it a strong backing when it went through to the planning committee.  This inclusive approach also filtered through to the design processes which architect Kirk Stewart managed on behalf of the Group.  On the whole, this shows the positive effects of working in genuine partnership as opposed to the adversarial approach other authorities sometimes take."

 The care accommodation comprises:-

20 EMI beds; 16 Psychiatric beds, 14 ARBD beds; 12 Neuro-Psychiatry beds; 15 residential care and 15 general nursing care
